Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to create an account?
No! Gear Stash requires no signup, login, or email. Just create your list and share it. We believe in keeping things simple.
How does sharing work?
When you click "Share", you get a unique URL that contains your entire gear list. Anyone with that link can view the list and check off items as they pack. The URL is all you need - no account required for you or the people you share with.
Can anyone edit my list?
Yes, anyone with the link can view and edit the list. This makes it easy to collaborate with trip partners, but also means you should only share with people you trust. We're working on adding password protection in a future update.
Is Gear Stash free?
Yes, Gear Stash is completely free to use with no hidden costs, premium tiers, or ads. We built it for the outdoor community.
Where is my data stored?
Your gear list data is encoded directly in the URL. We don't store your lists on our servers - there's no database of your gear. This means you should bookmark the URL or save it somewhere if you want to keep your list. It also means we can't recover a list if you lose the URL.
How do product images work?
When you add a product URL (like a link to a jacket on REI or a backpack on Amazon), we try to fetch the product image automatically. If we can't find an image, we'll show the site's icon as a placeholder. You can also manually set images by clicking on the placeholder.
What's the format for adding gear?
Add one item per line. To include a product link, use the format: Item Name - https://example.com/product. The URL is optional - you can just type the item name if you don't have a link.
Can I use Gear Stash offline?
Once you've loaded a gear list, you can view and check off items offline. However, you'll need an internet connection to create new lists, share them, or fetch product images.
